Bawo Ni from BA! This is the Rorshok Nigeria Update from the 12th of October twenty twenty-three A quick summary of what's going down in Nigeria.

We begin today's news with the hottest topic in the entertainment industry, which is, of course, the death of Mohbad. Recall that Primeboy, Mohbad's childhood friend, was a wanted man since the police thought he might be involved in Mohbad's death. However, Primeboy turned himself in on Thursday, the 5th, insisting that the police hadn’t contacted him, contrary to what the Police had said.

Tthe police preliminary report published on Friday, the 6th pointed the finger at Fisayo Ogedengbe, the auxiliary nurse who treated the musician. Reportedly, Mohbad had sustained a serious injury on his hand after fighting with Primeboy at the end of a show on Sunday, the 10th of September. Rather than going to the hospital, Mohbad insisted on getting help from Funmi, his personal nurse, at home. Since Funmi was not available, Feyisayo was called to treat the artist. Allegedly, he later developed further complications from Feyisayo's treatment which ultimately led to his death. Apart from Feyisayo, the police said that four other suspects will remain in custody. This includes Naira Marley and his associate, Sam Larry, for bullying and assaulting the singer in the past, Primeboy, and another friend of Mohbad, Sadiq, who reportedly brought Feyisayo to the musician’s home.

More updates on Tinubu's certificate saga. On Thursday, the 5th, Atiku Abubakar, the People's Democratic Party's presidential candidate, held a press conference calling on Peter Obi, the Labour Party's presidential candidate, to join him in his struggle to remove President Tinubu from office.

This came after Caleb Westberg, the registrar of Chicago State University (or CSU) released further details on the academic records of President Tinubu. Recall that there was a gender inconsistency in Tinubu’s documents but the university said it was just a clerical error. Although Caleb affirmed that Tinubu graduated from CSU, he also said that the certificate Tinubu submitted to Nigeria's electoral commission was not issued by the school. The ruling party and its supporters are now saying that Tinubu got his replacement certificate from a third-party vendor—which is reportedly legal in the US—, while the opposition insists that it is a forged document. Meanwhile, shortly after Abubakar's call for support, Peter Obi said he was taking a different path to reclaim his stolen mandate.

Moving on, on Saturday, the 7th, the Federal Government suspended the N-Power employment scheme that Buhari, the former president, established. The scheme aimed at reducing unemployment among the youth. Betta Edu, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, said that they had to suspend the program because it had several flaws. Reportedly, a lot of people employed under the scheme did not show up at work but received their salaries. Nevertheless, the discontinuation will affect one million Nigerians who are currently enrolled in the program. Economic analysts said that the suspension of the scheme would increase the unemployment rate However, Edu said that the program would be back with the necessary modifications once investigations are completed.

Let's take a look at what is happening in the education sector. On Tuesday, the 10th, The National Examination Council (or NECO) released the twenty twenty-three Internal Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination but said that ninety-three schools engaged in mass examination malpractice. Because of this, the examination body will suspend fifty-seven of its supervisors. Dantani Ibrahim, NECO’s registrar, has said that the schools will receive appropriate sanctions. Meanwhile, only twelve thousand students were involved in examination malpractice of the one million who sat for the test.

In other news, President Tinubu approved the appointment of Fela Durotoye, a former presidential candidate, as Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Values and Social Justice on Monday the 9th. Durotoye contested against Buhari in the twenty nineteen general election under the Alliance for New Nigeria Party. However, his appointment has caused heavy criticism from the opposition as he had said in the past that the ruling All Progressives Congress and the major opposition party, the People's Democratic Party, were similar and that they had nothing to offer to Nigerians.

Sunday Igboho, a popular secessionist agitator regained freedom on Monday the 9th, after his two-year protective custody in the Benin Republic. He was arrested in Benin in July twenty twenty-one after the Nigerian Police declared him a wanted man for leading a violent conflict for a new country called the Yoruba Nation. Reportedly, he had attempted to flee to Europe through the Benin Republic.

We turn our attention to what Nigerians are saying about the Israel-Palestine war. On Wednesday, the 11th, Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, prayed for the Christians in Israel who have been affected by the bombardments of Hamas. The move received mixed reactions from social media commentators. Members of the Church and supporters of Adeboye praised him for recognizing the biblical heritage of Israel. While others said that he could have prayed for Palestine as well.

On a lighter note, if you are a man in Nigeria and you plan on leaving the country soon, you may consider getting your haircut before leaving. Interestingly, a study has shown that men's haircuts in Nigeria are arguably the cheapest globally. For less than two dollars you can get yourself a very nice haircut. Reportedly, in some remote areas, a haircut costs less than a dollar. The report also said that the top three countries that have the most expensive haircuts are Norway, with sixty-four dollars, which is twice the current minimum wage in Nigeria. Japan ranks number two, since a haircut costs around fifty-six dollars, and it is followed by Denmark with forty-eight dollars.

On Thursday, the 5th, the Nigerian Senate invited the Service Chiefs over rising insecurity in the country. The Army said that in order to tackle insecurity he launched three initiatives with different code names. It would tackle robbery, kidnapping, cultism, and communal clashes in the South East region under the code name "Golden Dawn III". For the North Central, farmer-herder and ethnoreligious conflicts, cattle rustling, banditry, kidnapping, and terrorism would be addressed with the exercise "Enduring Peace III." The army also said that it would fight against robbery, kidnapping, and cultism in the South West under the tag "Still Waters III."

In entertainment, two of the musicians who perform with iconic music star Kwam 1 have reportedly absconded in the U.K. after traveling with the artist for a live performance. The lead guitarist and the keyboardist went missing shortly after arriving in the U.K. on Saturday, the 7th. However, Kwam 1 has informed the UK authorities about the two missing musicians. Their disappearance was called into question as they might have been trying to escape from the hardship in Nigeria.

Meanwhile, on Saturday, the 7th, Amaju Pinnick, former boss of the Nigeria Football Federation, and singer Davido got engaged in a public spat because the singer didn’t show up at an event, a yearly festival in Warri, Delta State, organized by the Ex-football boss. Reportedly, Davido received ninety-four thousand, six hundred dollars to perform but failed to show up. Pinnick accused the musician of feeling that the event was beneath him. However, Davido said that he had informed the organizers that he couldn’t participate in the event. The artist’s absence was called into question so Davido announced on his social media platforms that he would pay the organizers double the amount he had received for the event performance.

Let's close this edition with more football news. The Super Eagles of Nigeria, which is the men's national football team, has adopted the slogan "Let's do it Again", for the twenty twenty-four African Cup of Nations on Wednesday, the 11th. William Ekong, the team's captain, said the mantra gives the team the spirit to push for the ultimate prize. The Super Eagles last won the continental trophy in twenty thirteen but the team is currently buoyed by the presence of many in-form star players who are doing well for their football clubs in Europe.
